Structure
In this unit of photography we will be exploring structure such as buildings , architecture and also structure in nature. more specifically we will be looking at local structures and also types of architecture such as brutalism and various complex architecture too.
Structure mind map
Under this writing is a pintrest mood board of various different types of structure. Most being brutalist , this is a compalation of all the structure i like and find intresting.
Thomas Kellner
The first person photographer in structure that we looked at was a German fine arts photographer called Thomas Kellner who become well known for his large format photography were he would take photos of well known famous architechture monuments and turn them into photo mosaics were he would split it up into individual segments and shift the inners of the building to give the building an effect that made it look like as if the building was dancing.
Thomas Kellners work imitates the wondering look of the eye. Showing us segements of the total thet come together as one. His work offers alternative perspectives on the monuments around us and makes the viewer thing about the way people view structure His work is to the right. |

First attempts
For my first attempts we found famous architecture on google and practiced editing them in the style of Thomas Kellner to edit these photos I had to layer a film spreadsheet on the original photo then duplicated the image of the landmark rotated it then cut holes out the first layer to give a twisted effect.
Second attempts (in school)
For our second attempt for Thomas Kellner we had to this time use our own photos to edit so we had to go around school and take pictures of the structures within our school. we used our phone cameras to do this. for my photos I focused on getting a clear shot of the building for the best looking effect when edited.
Best edits
The editing process for these set of pictures were the same as the last were I had to paste the film contact sheet onto my photo duplicate my photo then twist it and delete the squares were I wanted it twisted. I think the editing process in these photos went well but if I were to improve I would take more photos of buildings with a more of a background behind them.
Third attempt (Muswell Hill)
for my third attempt of Thomas Kellner I went into Muswell Hill and took images again using my phone camera> the 2 buildings in Muswell Hill I focused on was everyman the cinema and the church. For these attempts I focused on getting more background in my image so being further away from my subject and getting the best looking angle on my subject.
Best edits
the editing process for these set of photos was the same as the second attempt and the editing process is shown to the right. I think the angle and backdrop of the subject went well and the edited final piece went well but if I were to improve I would get photos of other buildings and structure outside of Muswell hill.

Twisted structure
For this twisted structure task I had to look at 2 photographers one being Nicholas Kennedy and the other was David Copithorne. Both there work are very similar were they both take photos of structure and twist it. So for this task I took 2 sets of photos both using my phone camera but edited the photos in 2 different styles as we are looking at 2 different photographers.
Nicholas Kennedy Sitton
Nicholas Kennedy is a photographer who looks at structure ore specifically the distortion of structure.
His photos are comprised of modern architecture to were he then distorts and twists the image to give an abstract piece of photography. He does this to show how intriguing the concept of distortion translates to architecture , He said "it creates a sense of falling into itself like capturing a moment of demolition. I can destroy titanous steel structures withy the click of a mouse and create new twisted versions of reality". Examples of his work are to the right |

David CopithorneDavid Copithorne is a Brazilian photographer who also looks at structure and distorts / twists them. He focuses on geometry and natural scenarios to get his photos and turns it into a gift so the viewer can see the landscape / structure getting distorted in real time.
He says "that is were amazing photography is born and that split second can change your life and whether you are ready for it or not you can change the world in a single digital image. Examples of his work are to the right. |
